Giving gifts to your pet    Every Christmas, since I've had Ferb I have been giving him doggie treats and new toys. I really take the time to think about what I should give him. He really likes it and get all excited when I give him his presents. I even put the gifts in a nice wrapper and he would excitedly tear it apart. Last Christmas though, I was so busy with work I forgot to get a present for Ferb. I think that he was disappointed because I didn't have something for him. How about you? Do you give presents to your pets during Christmas or other occasions?

Yes, we buy Hunter a present every year for Christmas and sometimes even for his birthday. He usually gets a lot of presents because Kimberly also give her some new toys and treats. For Christmas last year, we gave him a small rope toy but it didn’t last very long because he likes chewing toys a lot. Kim usually gives him treats like cookies because he loves it. Gifts usually doesn’t last that long with Hunter because he plays with it and chew it all the time. He sure does have a merry Christmas all year long.

I think that is also the problem with Ferb. He is a very naughty dog and toys also doesn’t last him very long because he is a very naughty dog. We gave him a small and fluffy toy last year and he really loves it. He is always chewing on it and he brings it with him anywhere he goes as if it is his prized possession. I think he shows it off with the other dogs in the neighborhood. LOL. When he brings it outside, other dogs would like try to “borrow” the toy but he won’t let them.

Ferb must be very protective of the gifts which means that he values everything you give him which I think is really sweet. Do you regularly give your dog treats and presents? I do but I am now wondering would I spoil him too much? I mean I don’t want him to be spoiled or become an air-head. That won’t happen, right? I mean it’s just gifts. Last Christmas, aside from the cookies that Kim gave Hunter, she also gave him a stocking full of treats. He really likes it as well because he is a big treats lover. He gave Kim some loving and licked

I don’t think that you will spoil your dog by giving him presents not unless he is the Beverly Hills Chihuahua-type. I think that it is a very nice experience for our dogs that we give them treats and presents once in a while because it makes them feel special, not that they aren’t, just more special. I wanted to give Ferb a nice collar but it was way high for my budget so maybe next time. I’ll just have to save up for it so he can have a neat collar. His collar is already odd-looking and he has to have another one.

Hi! Yes, we do include our dogs in our Christmas list. We usually give treats and toys that we know Dragon and Wolf likes. We would put them in little stockings and they would know of course that those are treats. They love treats and toys at the same time. They usually play around with their toys and sometimes they share it with each other. For my 3 Shih Tzu babies, they do not like treats as much as the Rottweilers so I just give them some treats and a lot of new toys. For last Christmas, I gave each of them a new fluffy pillow and they really love it.

Hello, ilovedogss37! My dog Ferb loves both treats and toys. I had to buy him a lot of new toys for the whole year because just like what I have said, he is very naughty and he tends to break his toys easily because he chews a lot. I don’t know with him but I think that he should be already past that chewing stage but he is still not. I guess he really loves to chew toys. As for the treats, the best that he likes are cookies. He nibbles on them and eats it afterwards.

The 3 Shih Tzu really does not like the taste of the treats that I am giving to them. I tried switching to other types but they still don’t like it. I wonder if there are any treats out there which they like. I want to give them treats but it really may take time and a lot of money just so I will find out which they like the best. I tried giving the Shih Tzu cookies but they just sniffed it and walked away. Yes, all of three of them. I just find it weird that they all have the same preferences when it comes to treats and foods.

Well I have heard some stories about dogs when they are together for a long time and they develop the same preferences and likes. Although I am not sure about it, just stories. How about you buy each piece of treats and put them in a line and let the dogs sniff it. If they like it, they will eat it and if they don’t they’ll just move away. But I don’t think we can buy per piece so that’s going to be a little tough.

I don't really give gifts to Rocky regularly or every time there is an occasion. I just buy him toys or treats when he has broken his old toy or something. I don't think that it is necessary because he would just break it again. He plays a lot with toys and he also breaks them easily. Also, I do not have a budget to buy Rocky toys regularly. I have only given him one present for Christmas and that's all. I buy him the things that he need just when necessary.

Oh, I see. Doesn't Rocky like toys or treats? Maybe you are also correct. There are some people who do not give gifts or treats regularly to their dog because that is the most economical thing to do especially with the current condition of our economy. I understand what you are saying. There are also times that I can't buy a gift for Ferb and I would feel really bad about it but Ferb doesn’t react negatively about it so I guess it’s not a big problem for him if he doesn’t receive anything.
