Jealous of other dogs    My dog Princess has been acting really weird lately. She has been overly-protective of me and gets jealous when I pet other dogs in the house. Don't get me wrong. She is a very sociable and friendly dog. She plays around with all the dogs in the house and in the neighborhood. When we also get to some of my friends' houses, she is very friendly to the dogs. However, I have noticed that she gets really angry and starts growling when she sees me petting or touching other dogs. It looks like she was ready to attack those dogs any second. When I stop touching the other dogs, she would resume to being the friendly and sociable dog that she is. What seems to be the problem here?

I think that your dog is just resource guarding. I think you should try to teach her that it is ok if a dog comes near you. Assure her that a dog could come near you and it is perfectly alright. Have a friend hold a dog to come to you. If your dog is not reacting or not barking, praise her that she is doing a good job or give her some treats which she loves. You should only do this if your dog has been calm during the situation. If your dog reacts negatively talk to her and block your body. Assure her that you still love her even though you also touch other dogs. Good luck!

I think that your dog feels as if there is a need to be protective because she thinks that you need protection. She also doesn't want for other dogs to come near you because of that. I am not an expert when it comes to the behaviors of the dogs and I am just giving advices based on my opinion. I also think that you might be correct to say that your dog is jealous of other dogs that you pet. She may only want you for herself and she might be feeling that you don't love her anymore because you are touching other dogs. I agree with what dogsarelove has said. You should always assure her that she is still your baby so that she won't get jealous of other dogs.

I'm not really sure about what to say about her anymore. I really think that she is just being overprotective because she does not react that way when I pet and cuddle other dogs that I own in the house. She only gets really angry when I pet other dogs. I tried reassuring her that it is ok for me to touch other dogs but she doesn't want to listen, or she's not listening at all. I seriously do not know what to do with her anymore. I usually bring her to the park and she could not stop barking when other dogs come near me. I have to get her away from the park because I do not want her to get violent or react wildly towards other dogs.
