Re: Microchipping Dogs
The chip possesses a unique code that when passes thru scanner can be detected. The dog must be registered with microchip company for a fee for database purpose. Radio waves can detect or locate the lost dog who has a chip.

Re: Microchipping Dogs
A microchip is a small machine like a size of rice grain which can be implanted with needle and special syringe between dog’s shoulder blades. Most dogs won’t feel the pain of being implanted coz its like they just got a regular immunization shot.

Re: Microchipping Dogs
I think this is very safe considering it discards other identification techniques for animals but I question its reliability because sooner or later the chip can disintegrate, what’s the guarantee of its long life?

Re: Microchipping Dogs
I think identification of your dog should be one’s responsibility like keeping records of its unique features or special behavior. Microchipping is just an alternative for those who consider a little ease.

Re: Microchipping Dogs
In response to lieon's last post, the microchip implanted in the dog's body is designed by modern technology so it would not be destroyed and rejected by the animal's body. It is encapsulated in a material that goes well with living cells.
If I am not mistaken, the material is modified silicon. Something similar like that silicon from a female breast implant.
The microchip there functions in a way just as how a cellular phone's SIM card, train ticket, payphone card and other similar items that employ microchips work.

Re: Microchipping Dogs
In response to kimball's last post, the microchip for dogs is an idea whose time has come. Yes, keeping records and everything like you said is very much important. But hey, check this out:
Lost dogs with microchips can now be recovered immediately with the use of GPS or global positioning system.
What if it happens? Your dog gets lost. The GPS can track the exact location of your pet... Hmmm... Well, if it has a microchip implanted in it.
Aren't you glad of this feature?

Re: Microchipping Dogs
Collars and tags are no longer reliable identification for your dogs. With the technology around microchips is the solution for tracking the dog’s whereabouts. As from the past millions of dogs were lost, or has been adopted but without the real owners seeing them, this is a good way to lessen that bad incident.
